Vytautas Kumža(b. 1992, Lithuania), based in Amsterdam, uses photography as a sculptural and spatial medium to decontextualize everyday objects. Glass, metal chains, antennas, hinges, handcuffs, and strands of hair gather in hybrid compositions that turn the image into a site of formal experimentation rather than documentation. His constructed scenes act less as representations of reality than as performative dialogues between contrasting elements, negotiating tension and meaning. Through color inversions, distortions of scale and subtle visual feints, he elicits unfamiliar sensations from familiar things. Facing his imperfect assemblies, viewers are invited to reconsider how seeing and believing operate today.
