Duarte Sequeira is presenting Room 13 by Edmond Brooks Beckman, on view from April 3, 2026. This exhibition, the artist’s second solo show in Seoul, reimagines pressure as a physical and structural condition rather than a visual subject, pushing the traditional limits of watercolor until the surfaces reach a point of near collapse. By drawing on the architectural logic of the classroom, using partitions and tables to signal both regulation and exclusion, the works expose the inherent fragility of authority and the structures that govern our visibility. Ultimately, the paintings reject the modern demand for instant clarity, instead insisting on a space of opacity where the right to remain unresolved is fiercely protected.

두아르트 스퀘이라(Duarte Sequeira)는 2026년 4월 3일부터 에드먼드 브룩스 벡만(Edmond Brooks Beckman)의 개인전 《Room 13》을 개최한다. 작가의 서울 두 번째 개인전인 이번 전시는 ‘압력’을 단순한 시각적 대상이 아닌 물리적이고 구조적인 상태로 재해석하며, 수채화라는 매체의 전통적인 한계를 밀어붙여 표면이 붕괴 직전에 이를 때까지 층을 쌓고 압박한다. 칸막이와 테이블을 통해 통제와 배제의 신호를 보내는 교실의 건축적 논리를 끌어들임으로써, 작품들은 권력의 내재된 취약성과 우리의 가시성을 규정하는 구조들을 드러낸다. 궁극적으로 이 회화들은 즉각적인 명료함을 요구하는 현대의 방식에 저항하며, 불투명함의 미학을 고수하고 결론지어지지 않은 채로 남아 있을 권리를 치열하게 지켜낸다.
