Overview
Established in 2007, GALLERY2 has introduced diverse Korean contemporary art in many genres. GALLERY2 puts importance on solid relationships and the partnership between the gallery and artists, and works together to find ways to continue artists’ creative practice. Above of all, GALLERY2 believes that its role is to find commercial possibilities for valuable artwork and to help the art scene in Korea maintain its diverse spectrum.
GALLERY2 currently has two spaces. GALLERY2 in Pyeongchang-dong presents the current work of artists in any age and genre, mainly through solo exhibitions. GALLERY2 JOONGSUN NONGWON in Nature on Jeju Island shows major established artists in Korea. Each space has a different purpose with an intent to introduce various artwork within its category.
GALLERY2 builds balanced partnerships between the gallery and artists rather than focusing on short the term or on a current trend. This encourages positive stimulation for the gallery and artists, and actualizes its credo through its exhibitions. GALLERY2 positively accepts change, keeps an ongoing partnership with artists, and attempts to engage with more artists.
2007년에 개관한 갤러리2는 한국 현대미술의 다양한 작품을 소개하고 있다. 갤러리2는 작가와 갤러리 간의 두터운 신뢰와 파트너십을 중요하게 생각하며, 작가의 창작 활동을 지속할 수 있도록 함께 고민하고 있다. 그리고 무엇보다 갤러리의 역할은 가치 있는 작품의 상업 가능성을 모색하여 현대미술의 다양한 스펙트럼을 유지하는 것이라고 믿고 이를 실천하고 있다.
현재 갤러리2는 연령이나 장르에 상관없이 개인전을 중심으로 신작을 선보이는 갤러리2(평창동), 한국의 주요 중견작가의 작품을 소개하는 자연 속의 갤러리2 중선농원(제주도)을 운영하고 있으며, 두 공간은 목적을 달리하면서도 공간의 성격에 맞게 가치 있는 작품을 소개하겠다는 취지를 유지하고 있다.
갤러리2는 단기적인 성과를 달성하거나 화제를 따르기보다는 작가와 갤러리의 균형 있는 파트너십을 쌓아가고 있다. 작가와 갤러리 모두 서로에게 긍정적인 자극을 주고, 그 결과를 작품과 전시를 통해 보여주고자 노력한다. 갤러리2는 긍정적으로 변화를 수용하고, 갤러리에도 변화를 끌어낼 수 있는 더 많은 작가들과 교류할 수 있기를 바란다.
