Younguk Yi

Lee Youngwook’s practice investigates the essence of humanity and the narratives that are gradually disappearing in contemporary society. Through repetitive structures and fragmented imagery, he reconstructs desires inherent to the human condition and translates these into a painterly language.
His paintings flatten notions of locality and temporality, incorporating architectural elements and collage techniques to establish a visual order. By assembling repetitive and symbolic images, he constructs new narratives while seeking a painterly structure that transcends mere juxtaposition and suggests a sense of necessity.
In doing so, Lee proposes a distinctive visual approach that reflects contemporary narratives and continuously expands the potential of painting.

이영욱은 인간의 본질과 동시대 사회에서 점차 사라져가는 서사를 탐구하는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 그는 반복적인 형식과 파편화된 이미지를 통해 인간의 욕망과 그로 인해 형성된 서사를 재구성하며, 이를 회화적 방식으로 치환하는 데 주목한다.
그의 회화는 지역성과 시대성을 평면화하는 과정에서 건축적 요소와 콜라주 기법을 적극적으로 활용하며, 시각적 질서를 구축해 나간다. 반복적이고 상징적인 이미지를 조합하여 새로운 서사를 형성하는 동시에, 단순한 이미지 병치를 넘어선 필연성을 갖춘 회화적 구조를 모색한다.
