Yoo Jung Ellie Choi

Exploring interiors and interiority, Yoo Jung Ellie Choi creates evocative domestic spaces populated by pensive figures absorbed in solitude. Her meticulous brushwork and smooth surfaces enhance the ethereal atmosphere that pervades her compositions. Doors, windows, and stairs serve as interstitial spaces through which surreal elements infiltrate Choi’s rational modern interiors. Choi had her solo debut in 2021 with the exhibition A Lone Return at 175 Gallery in Seoul. In addition, she has participated in dual exhibitions at Seongbuk Young Art Space, Seoul (2023) and Gallery IS, Seoul (2016). Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at Seongbuk Young Art Space, Seoul (2023); Hapjungjigu, Seoul (2022); BGA Maru, Seoul (2021); Art Delight Gallery, Seoul (2019); Dongsomun, Seoul (2019); and Woods-Gerry House, Providence (2018), among others.

내부 공간과 인간의 내면을 탐구하는 최유정은 고독에 잠긴 인물들로 가득 찬 주거 공간을 연상시키는 작업을 한다. 세심한 붓질과 매끄러운 표면은 작품에 스며든 미묘한 분위기를 더욱 돋보이게 한다. 문과 창문, 계단은 틈새 공간의 역할을 하며, 이를 통해 초현실적 요소가 이성적이고 현대적인 인테리어에 침투한다. 최유정은 미국 로드아일랜드 디자인스쿨(Rhode Island School of Design)에서 회화과 학사를 마쳤으며, 한국예술종합학교에서 조형예술과 전문사를 취득했다. 2021년 서울 175 갤러리에서 데뷔전 ≪돌아온 탕자≫를 가졌으며 최근 서울 드로잉룸(2024)에서 개인전을 마쳤다. 성북예술창작터(Seongbuk Young Art Space, 2023)와 서울 갤러리이즈(Gallery Is, 2016)에서 열린 2인전에도 참여했다. 이 외에도, 성북예술창작터(2023), 서울 합정지구(Hapjungjigu, 2022), 서울 BGA 마루(BGA Maru, 2021), 딜라이트 서울(Art Delight Gallery, 2019), 서울 동소문(Dongsomun, 2019), 미국 프로비던스 우즈-개리하우스(Woods-Gerry House, 2018) 등의 단체전에 참여한 바 있다. 최근 페레스프로젝트 베를린에서 그녀가 갤러리와 함께하는 첫 개인전을 마쳤다.
