Meeyoung Kim is known for her abstract paintings, utilizing various materials and techniques from the West while rooted in the spirit of the Eastern painting theory of ”Giunsaengdong“ (氣韻生動). The artist expresses daily events and experiences through vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes in her abstract paintings. Sight, hearing, taste and touch are converted into synesthetic imagery painting on the canvas, like the soft taste or fresh air is spread on her screen.

Meeyoung Kim majored in Korean Painting at Ewha Womans University and its graduate school in Seoul, earning an MFA degree in painting from the Royal College of Art in the UK. She has held solo exhibitions at various venues such as Leehwaik Gallery (Seoul), Gallery Kiche (Seoul), Gallery Huue (Singapore), and Helen J Gallery (Los Angeles). Meeyoung Kim has also participated in a number of group shows including: Summer Exhibition at Royal Academy of Arts, London; Wonderful Pictures at Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul; and Hite Collection, Seoul. She has participated in Cité Internationale des Arts program as a winner of Paris Studio Award at the Royal College of Art. Her works are part of the various collection such as: MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), Korea; Daegu Museum, Korea; The Work Project, Singapore; Hana Bank and Josun Palace, Seoul, Korea

김미영(b.1984)은 동양 회화 이론인 ‘기운생동(氣韻生動)’의 정신을 바탕으로 서구의 다양한 재료와 기법을 결합한 추상회화를 선보여 왔다. 작가는 일상의 경험과 감각을 생동감 있는 색채와 대담한 붓질로 화면에 풀어내며, 시각·청각·미각·촉각 등 서로 다른 감각을 공감각적 이미지로 전환한다. 이러한 회화는 부드러운 맛이나 상쾌한 공기가 화면 위에 퍼지듯 감각적인 울림을 만들어내며, 일상의 경험을 회화적 리듬과 색채의 흐름 속에서 새롭게 환기한다.

 

김미영은 이화여자대학교와 동 대학원에서 한국화를 전공했으며, 영국 왕립예술학교(Royal College of Art)에서 회화로 석사(MFA) 학위를 취득했다. 이화익갤러리(서울), 갤러리 기체(서울), 갤러리 휴(싱가포르), 헬렌 제이 갤러리(로스앤젤레스) 등에서 개인전을 개최했으며, 런던 왕립미술원(Royal Academy of Arts), 일민미술관, 하이트컬렉션 등 다수의 단체전에 참여했다. 또한 왕립예술학교 재학 시 파리 스튜디오 어워드(Paris Studio Award) 수상자로 선정되어 시테 인터내셔널 데자르(Cité Internationale des Arts) 레지던시에 참여했다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 대구미술관, 더 워크 프로젝트(싱가포르), 하나은행, 조선 팰리스(서울) 등 다양한 기관과 컬렉션에 소장되어 있다.
