Richard Harrison

Richard Harrison, born in Liverpool in 1954, studied Medieval History at Cambridge University before earning BA and MA degrees in Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art. Known for his abstract landscapes, Harrison’s paintings are characterised by bold, textured colours and thick layers of paint, reflecting intense emotional and visionary themes. His work is often associated with the Romantic tradition, focusing on struggle, sublime emotion, and existential despair. He draws inspiration from historical figures such as Goya, Turner, and Bacon, seeing them as fellow outsiders in their search for self-mastery. Harrison’s powerful and uncompromising approach to painting aims for a raw, dynamic expression of form and colour.
