For Kyungbeen Park, flight serves as a metaphor for tracing a primordial longing that persists within the functionalized life of contemporary subjects in social systems, drawing from allegorical narratives in folktales and film as archaeological clues to probe human essence while focusing less on events than on the will that binds them, and through a repetitive, performative process grounded in manual labor and material inquiry the work restores the individual submerged in grand narratives while addressing structural ruptures, as images emerge from the artist’s physical intervention into public archives such as those of national industry and aviation brought into the present, while materials such as beeswax, resin, and metal leaf, responsive to heat and pressure, are combined with encaustic techniques to invert the smoothness of digital printing, ultimately constructing a contemporary mythic landscape where human desire and institutional narratives intersect.

Park Kyungbeen (b. 1999) graduated with a BFA in Fine Arts from Korea National University of Arts and earned an MFA in Sculpture from Seoul National University. Selected exhibitions include Cough, Love, Doubt (2025, Onsu Gonggan, Seoul), Hold On (2024, COSO, Seoul), and All Tomorrow’s Parties (2022, Art Space 3, Seoul). Works by the artist are in the collections of Money Today, MUZI Art Gallery (Taiwan), and the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts.

박경빈에게 ‘비행’은 사회 시스템 속에 기능화된 현대인의 삶 속에서도 여전히 유효하게 작동하는 근원적 열망을 추적하기 위한 메타포이다. 작가는 설화나 영화 등에서 발견되는 알레고리적 서사를 인간의 본질을 파헤치는 고고학적 단서로 삼고, 사건 그 자체보다 그것들을 유기적으로 엮어내는 인간의 ‘의지’에 집중한다. 수집된 재료의 물성을 탐구하고 손의 노동을 반복하는 수행적 과정은 거대 서사에 융합되어버린 개인의 자리를 복원하며 구조적 균열을 메워가는 작업이다. 화면에 등장하는 이미지는 국가 산업이나 항공 기술 등 도구화된 공적 자료들을 작가의 신체적 개입을 통해 현재로 소환해낸 산물이다. 온도와 압력에 반응하는 밀랍, 송진, 금속 박 등은 고대 납화 기법과 결합하여 현대의 매끄러운 디지털 인쇄 방식을 물리적으로 뒤집는다. 이로써 상상의 알레고리로 치환된 기록물들은 인간의 욕망과 제도의 서사가 교차하는 지점에서 현대의 신화적 풍경을 구축한다.
