Lim Heejae

Lim Heejae (B.1993) visualizes situations infused with the desire to touch and possess the essence of ‘Nature’. The subjects she deals with, much like the taxidermies in a natural history museum, assume nature to be complete and vivid. In this regard, she discovers a resemblance between the human desire for nature and her own desire for image as a painter. She visualizes the connection between those two dilemmas by focusing on the surfaces that mediate these desires rather than the direct subjects, creating a peculiar texture and a sense of speed in her work.

Lim Heejae graduated from the Korea National University of Arts’ department of Visual Art, receiving her BFA in 2016, and MFA in 2020. Her major solo exhibitions include Nesting (Space ONSU, 2023) and Cabinet of Curiosity (Lee Eugean Gallery, 2022). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions such as The Vanishing Horizon: Episode.02 (WWNN, 2023), Inflating World (Drawing Room, 2020), and COCOON 2020 (Space K, 2020). She is a current participant in the WHITE BLOCK residency program in Cheonan, Korea.

임희재(B. 1993)는 자연의 개념이 이미지로 가공된 상태를 회화로 다루고 있다. 자연을 만지고 소유하기 위해 표본화 하는 행위에서 그림 그리는 작가 개인의 욕망과 딜레마를 발견한다. 표본화 된 동물의 모습은 회화의 틀과 유리 막을 경유하여 번역되는데, 그 과정에서 유실되거나 일그러진 상태로 포착되는 형상은 작가의 손에 의해 다시금 동력을 품은 다층적인 이미지로 발현됨으로 모순된 가능성을 보여주고 있다.

임희재는 2016년 한국예술종합학교 조형예술과 예술사, 2020년 전문사를 졸업하였다. 주요 개인전으로는 《둥지짓기》, (온수공간, 서울, 2023), 《Cabinet of Curiosity》 (이유진 갤러리, 서울, 2022)등이 있다. 《The Vanishing Horizon: Episode.02》, (WWNN, 서울, 2024), 《부풀어오르는 세계》 (드로잉 룸, 서울, 2020), 《COCOON 2020》 (스페이스K, 과천, 2020)등 다수의 단체전에 참여했으며 현재 화이트블럭 천안창작촌 레지던시에서 작업 중이다.
