Lee Wan
Lee Wan (b.1979) studied Sculpture at Dongguk University and earned a Master’s degree in Media Art from the same university’s Graduate School of Film and Digital Media. His work explores the impact and inevitable influences that globalization and capitalist systems have on individual lives, through various media including sculpture, installation, and video documentary. By capturing the intersection between vast socio-political structures and personal narratives, Lee Wan offers a critical perspective while prompting viewers to reflect on the essence of human existence. Since being selected as the representative artist for the Korean Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, he has gained sustained attention both at home and abroad, steadily expanding the reach of his artistic practice.
His major solo exhibitions include 《Random Access Memory, Chapter.3 ‘Record & Memory’》(House of Woonkyung, Seoul, Korea, 2024), 《Random Access Memory, Chapter.2 ‘Heir’》(ACT Ground, Hwaseong, Korea, 2023), and 《Lee Wan Solo Exhibition – 313art project》(Art Basel Hong Kong, 2019). He has also participated in notable group exhibitions such as 《The Irreplaceable Human》(Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Fredensborg Kommune, Denmark, 2023), On Boarding(Sungkok Art Museum, Seoul, Korea, 2023), and《Leeum Museum Collection Exhibition: Contemporary Korean Art》(Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea, 2019). His works are included in the collections of the Louis Vuitton Museum (Paris, France), Leeum Museum of Art(Seoul, Korea), and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art(Gwacheon, Korea), among others.
이완(b.1979)은 동국대학교에서 조소를 전공하고, 동대학원에서 미디어아트 석사 학위를 받았다. 그의 작업은 세계화와 자본주의 시스템이 한 개인의 삶에 미치는 영향과 불가항력을 주제로, 조각·설치·비디오 다큐멘터리 등 다양한 매체를 통해 전개된다. 작가는 거대한 사회·정치적 구조와 개인의 서사가 교차하는 지점을 포착하여 비판적 시각을 드러내는 동시에, 관람자로 하여금 인간 존재의 의미를 다시금 성찰하도록 이끈다. 2017년 베니스 비엔날레 한국관 대표 작가로 선정된 이후, 이완은 국내외 미술계에서 꾸준한 주목을 받으며 활동 범위를 지속적으로 확장해 나가고 있다.
