Sanoh Lee works with clay, paper, and graphite to poetically unravel contemplations on life and death. Discovering affinities within the structures through which text and image emerge, the artist approaches diverse creative languages with sensitivity. Reconfiguring elements drawn from books, she constructs relationships between text and image and develops surreal pictorial scenes through a process akin to writing. Particular attention is given to the image of the bird—as both a mediator that enables the perception of premonitions, intuitions, and the unseen yet felt, and as a messenger traversing between this world and the next.

Lee Sanoh (b. 1996) majored in Painting at Sejong University and received an MFA in Ceramics from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. The artist has held solo exhibitions including Island of Pale Languages (Momokjeok, Seoul, 2023) and Things That Cannot Be Explained, Like a Praying Heart (What artist do, Seoul, 2022). Selected group exhibitions include Golden Arrow (TINC, Seoul, 2024), The Mysterious Bond of the Messenger (Daejeon Museum of Art Creative Center, Daejeon, 2024), Vitarium (Shinhan Gallery Yeoksam, Seoul, 2023), Arch of Experience (Gallery IN HQ, Seoul, 2023), and Um-Pa (Byeolguan, Seoul, 2023).

이산오는 흙과 종이, 흑연으로 삶과 죽음에 대한 사색을 시적으로 풀어내는 작업을 하고 있다. 텍스트와 이미지가 발생하는 구조에서 유사성을 발견하며 다양한 창작 언어를 이해한다. 책에서부터 소재들을 가져와 텍스트와 이미지 사이의 연관성을 만들어내고, 글쓰기와 유사한 방식으로 초현실적인 화면을 전개한다. 예감이나 직감, 보이지 않지만 느껴지는 것들을 인식하게 하는 매개이자 이승과 저승을 오가는 전령으로써의 새의 이미지에 주목한다.
