Keunmin Lee

Keunmin Lee’s (b. 1982 in Yeongju, KR) work, which comprises painting and drawing, delves into the meanders of the psyche. Drawing from his personal experiences with hallucinations and guided by instinctive gestures, Lee translates hallucinatory visions into visceral compositions characterized by rich red hues and meticulous brushwork. His paintings materialize enduring mental traces, as he engages in a cathartic process that turns the mind inside out. In 2022, Lee had a major solo exhibition at Space K, Seoul. In addition, his work has been the subject of solo presentations at Peres Projects, Berlin; Gallery Dam, Seoul; and Hyun Gallery, Seoul, among others. He had a dual exhibition with Mandy El-Sayegh at Lehmann Maupin, Seoul in 2022, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark (2024), Galerie Derouillon, Paris (2024), Swivel Gallery, New York (2024); Eul Gallery, Daegu (2018); CYAN Museum of Art, Youngcheon (2017); Seoul National University Museum of Art, Korea (2017); and Blume Museum of Contemporary Art, Paju (2015). His work has entered the collections of Space K, Seoul and Colección Solo, Madrid.

이근민의 작품은 내면의 곡류를 탐구한 회화와 드로잉으로 구성되어 있다. 작가는 환각에 대한 개인적 경험과 본능적인 움직임을 바탕으로 환각에 의해 보이는 것들을 신체 부위와 같은 구성으로 캔버스 위에 옮긴다. 서울 Space K에서 개최된 대규모 개인전(2022)을 비롯해, 뉴욕 스위블 갤러리(Swivel Gallery, 2024), 서울 갤러리 담(Gallery Dam, 2013), 서울 현 갤러리(Hyun Gallery, 2010) 등에서 다수의 개인전을 가졌다. 덴마크 쿤스트할 오르후스(Kunsthal Aarhus, 2024), 리만머핀 서울(Lehmann Maupin, 2022)에서 이인전을 가졌으며 파리 갤러리 드루이용(Galerie Derouillon, 2024), 뉴욕 스위블 갤러리(Swivel Gallery, 2024), 대구 을갤러리(Eul Gallery, 2018), 영천 시안미술관(CYAN Museum of Art, 2017), 서울대학교 미술관(Seoul National University Museum of Art, 2017), 파주 블루메미술관(Blume Museum of Contemporary Art, 2015) 등 다수의 단체전에 참여했다. 그의 작품은 Space K, 마드리드 콜렉션 솔로(Colección Solo)에 소장되어 있다. 최근 페레스프로젝트 베를린 공간에서 갤러리와 함께하는 첫 개인전 ≪Realizing Boundaries≫(2024)를 마쳤다.
