Kang Dongju
Kang Dongju (b.1988) delves into the essence of the world and perceives its transformations by sensing the passage of time and the forms of light and darkness. When encountering the shifting flow of time, changing seasons, weather, and transformations of place and terrain, Kang selects media and drawing methods suited to visualizing each experience. Through a blend of frottage, printmaking, pencil and graphite drawings, and color, she has faithfully and consistently recreated the world’s appearances. This process reflects her aesthetic approach to understanding, responding to, and engaging with the world. By diligently recording her relationship with the outside world, she explores her place within it and the significance of that connection.
Kang received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Fine Arts from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Her solo exhibitions include Cast, Amado Art Space, Seoul (2025); A Glimpse of Light, Gaze Upon Nowhere, A-Lounge, Seoul (2022); At the Window, Tastehouse, Seoul (2018); Seoul, DOOSAN Gallery, Seoul (2016); Subcenter, OCI Museum of Art, Seoul (2013); and Black-out, Nuha-dong 256, Seoul (2012). In 2016, she was awarded the DOOSAN Gallery New York Residency.
강동주(b.1988)는 시간의 흐름, 빛과 어두움의 형태를 감각함으로써 세상의 본질을 헤아리고 그 변모를 인지해 나간다. 지나가는 시간, 변화하는 계절과 날씨, 장소와 지형의 탈바꿈을 마주했을 때, 작가는 각 상황을 시각화하기에 유리하고 편안한 지지체와 드로잉 방식을 선택한다. 프로타주, 판화, 연필 혹은 흑연 드로잉과 채색 등 다양한 매체를 혼합해 세계의 생김을 충실하고 꾸준하게 재현해 왔다. 이는 세상을 이해하고 대응하며, 소통하고자 하는 작가의 미학적 방법론으로, 강동주는 자신과 외부를 연결하기 위해 그 관계성을 부단히 기록함으로써 자신의 자리를 가늠하고 그 소용을 모색하고자 한다.
