지선경 Ji Sunkyung
Ji Sunkyung(b. 1983) graduated from the Department of Environmental Sculpture at the University of Seoul before moving to Germany, where she earned her Diplom and Meisterschüler degrees at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK Braunschweig). After living and working in Berlin for approximately six years, she is currently based in South Korea. Ji fluidly navigates the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation, exploring both sensory plasticity and the hidden conceptual order through intuitive combinations of color and form. Through a process-oriented approach, she investigates the multi-layered interactions between material, light, and space, utilizing techniques such as layering, spraying, and translucency to reveal the relationships between surface and depth, and presence and absence. The repetition of simple geometric elements creates a subtle tension and rhythm on the canvas, allowing her work to expand within the margins of sensation and imagination while experimenting with new possibilities in formal language.
Her major solo exhibitions include Ageless Season (Artside Gallery, 2026), A White Duck Passes Through Grass and Wind… (Project Space Sarubia, 2024), Drunkard’s Move (Daejeon TEMI Residency, 2023), and CAST (Cheongju Art Studio, 2021). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at prominent institutions and galleries such as Wooson Gallery in Daegu, Space So, and ONE AND J. +1 in Seoul. Having been selected for residencies at the Daejeon TEMI Residency and Cheongju Art Studio, and with her work registered in the SOMA Drawing Center Archive in 2021, she continues to pursue her dedicated formal and sculptural experimentation.
지선경(b.1983)은 서울시립대학교 환경 조각학과를 졸업하고 독일 브라운슈바이크 국립조형예술대학교(HBK Braunschweig)에서 디플롬과 마이스터슐러(Meisterschüler) 과정을 마쳤다. 이후 약 6년간 베를린에 거주하며 작업하고, 현재는 한국을 기반으로 활동하고 있다.
작가는 회화, 조각, 설치 사이의 경계를 유동적으로 넘나들며, 직관적 인 색과 형태의 조합 속에서 감각적 조형성과 그 안의 숨겨진 개념적 질서를 함께 탐구한다. 과정 중심의 접근을 통해 물질, 빛, 공간이 다층적으로 상호작용하는 방식을 연구하고, 레이어링, 분사, 반투명성 같은 기법으로 표면과 깊이, 존재와 부재의 관계를 드러낸다. 반복과 단순한 기하학적 요소는 화면 위에 미묘한 긴장과 리듬을 만들며 작업은 감각과 상상의 여백 속에서 유연하게 확장되며 조형 언어의 새로운 가능성을 실험한다.
주요 개인전으로는 아트사이드 갤러리 《나이없는 계절》(2026), 프로젝트 스페이스 사루비아의 《흰 오리는 풀과 바람 사이를 지나며…》(2024), 대전테미예술창작센터의 《Drunkard’s Move》(2023), 청주미술창작스튜디오의 《CAST》(2021) 등이 있다. 또한 대구 우손갤러리, 서울 스페이스 소, 원앤제이 플러스원 등 유수의 갤러리와 기관에서 열린 단체전에 참여하였다. 대전테미예술창작스튜디오와 청주미술창작스튜디오 레지던시 작가로 선정된 바 있으며, 2021년 소마드로잉센터 아카이브 등록 작가로 이름을 올리는 등 조형적 실험을 지속하고 있다.
