LIANG Manqi was born in 1986 in Guangdong Province, China. She graduated from the department of art education at China Academy of Art in 2009 and obtained her MFA from the CDK (Chinesisch-Deutshe Kunstakademie), a joint degree program of the University of the Arts, Berlin and the China Academy of Art in 2012. She currently lives and works in Shanghai. As a representative of the Chinese female artist of abstract art of the post-80s generation, LIANG Manqi adopts two-dimensional paintings as the primary clue, utilizing installations, site-specific paintings, and even the architectural structure of the space as her media. Those seemingly logical visual symbols on canvas are balanced through the artist’s abundant sensibility and emotional order. LIANG Manqi takes the geometrical shape and color as a method to understand herself and her surroundings, as well as the passage to embrace the psychological uncertainty, contradiction, and conflict.

중국 여성작가 양만치(Liang Manqi, b.1986, 주하이, 중국)는 베이징 중앙미술학원을 졸업하고, 베를린 예술대학에서 석사학위를 받았다. 작가는 2013년 ‘케이트의 공간’이라는 장소특정적 미술을 시작하였는데 이 독립아트프로젝트는 젊은 작가들의 삶의 스타일과 그들의 독립적인 생각을 지속적으로 탐구하고 담론을 나누기 위하여 기획되었다.

 

양만치는 2013년 항저우 반얀 아트 하우스와 드리머 하우스에서 전시를 가졌고, 2014년에는상하이 롱 뮤지엄과 안테나 스페이스, 베이징 후통 프로젝트, 항저우 인나 컨템포러리 아트 등에서 다수의 프로젝트와 전시를 선보이며 중국 젊은 여성작가로써 큰 주목을 받고 있다.

 

2014년 제주 아라리오뮤지엄 동문모텔 개관전에서 <객관적 관계들 (Several Objective Relations), 2014> 이라는 작품을 통해 작가 특유의 색면 회화가 벽면, 바닥 등 공간으로 확장되는 설치 작품을 선보인 바 있으며, 아라리오 갤러리 서울에서 국내 첫 개인전을 가진다.
