Jo Hyejin

Jo Hyejin (b. 1986) deconstructs and rearranges images with unknown sources, in other words, “unclaimed images” that have drifted away from their original meaning through repeated acts of replication and modification. Studying these images with the eye of a researcher, Jo returns these images to the distribution structure, where they acquire new meanings and once again enter anonymous circulation. Through this process, Jo reveals the underlying mechanisms of image consumption and, furthermore, the operation of social systems. Jo’s practice begins with observation, which is an artistic attitude that seeks to touch reality within the world beyond the screen and within the incomplete images.

Jo Hyejin received both her BFA and MFA in Sculpture from Ewha Womans University. She has held solo exhibitions at Primary Practice, Seoul (2024); Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul (2021); and d/p, Seoul (2019). Her work has also been featured in major institutional and commercial group exhibitions such as ZIP, Arko Art Center, Seoul (2024); Open Quotation Marks Close Quotation Marks, Culture Station Seoul 284, Seoul (2023); 5 Inclusion Tactics for 7 Curators, De Appel, Amsterdam (2023); Monuments of the 21st Century – On the Absolute, Amado Art Space, Seoul (2021); and Real DMZ Project: Dongsong Time, Art Sonje Center, Seoul (2015).

조혜진 (b. 1986)은 일상 속에서 유통되는 출처 불명의 이미지, 즉 복제와 변형을 거듭하며 원본으로부터 멀어진 ‘무연고 이미지’를 연구자의 시선으로 해체하고 재배치한다. 그 과정에서 이미지는 다시 유통 구조 속으로 되돌아가며, 새롭게 의미를 획득하고 또다시 익명으로 순환된다. 작가는 이 과정을 통해 이미지 소비의 구조, 나아가 사회적 시스템의 작동 원리를 드러낸다. 조혜진의 작업은 관찰에서 출발하며, 이는 화면 너머의 세계와 불완전한 이미지 속에서 여전히 실재를 만지고자하는 작가적 태도를 보여준다.
조혜진은 이화여자대학교에서 조소과 학사 및 석사 과정을 졸업하였다. 프라이머리 프랙티스, 서울(2024); 스페이스 윌링앤딜링, 서울(2021); d/p, 서울(2019) 등에서 개인전을 가졌으며, «ZIP», 아르코미술관, 서울(2024); «따옴표 열고 따옴표 닫고», 문화역서울 284, 서울(2023); «5 Inclusion Tactics for 7 Curators», 드아펠, 암스테르담(2023); «21세기 기념비-절대적인 것에 대하여», 아마도예술공간, 서울(2021); «리얼디엠지 프로젝트: 동송세월», 아트선재센터, 서울(2015) 등 국내외 주요 기관과 상업 공간의 기획전에 참여했다.
