PARK KI WON

Kiwon Park strives to maintain the essence of space. Working in both painting and installation, he emphasizes the attributes of space in both worlds. Therefore, his works, which divide specific spatial situations into large planes or represent them with lines, allow viewers to feel a new sense of space that is not artificial. The combination of geometric planes and vertical and horizontal lines in his works creates an organic space that maximizes the viewer’s imagination. He has held solo exhibitions in Australia, Madrid, Zurich, and Beijing, and group exhibitions around the world, including Seoul, Venice, Berlin, and Shanghai. He also exhibited at the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2005, and was selected as the 2010 Artist of the Year at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Amorepacific Musuem of Art, Arko Museum, Louis Vuitton Foundation Paris, Cheongju Museum of Art, and Daegu Museum of Art.

박기원은 공간의 본질을 유지하기 위하여 노력한다. 회화와 설치 작업 모두 지속해온 그는 두 세계 모두에서 공간의 속성을 중시한다. 따라서 특정한 장소적 상황을 크게 면으로 나누거나 선으로 표현하는 작가의 작품세계는 관람객들에게 인위적이지 않지만 새로운 공간감을 느낄 수 있게 한다. 기하학적 면과 수직 수평의 선들이 조화를 이루는 그의 작품에서는 유기체적 공간이 창조되어 관람자들의 상상력이 극대화된다. 작가는 호주, 마드리드, 취리히, 베이징 등에서 개인전을 개최하고 서울, 베니스, 베를린, 상하이 등 세계 각지에서 그룹전을 진행하였다. 또한 2005년 베니스 비엔날레 한국관에서 전시한 바 있으며, 2010년 국립현대미술관 올해의 작가상에 선정된 바 있다. 주요 작품 소장처는 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 아모레퍼시픽 미술관, 아르코 미술관, 파리 루이비통 파운데이션, 청주시립미술관, 대구미술관 등이다.
