KWON O BONG

Kwon O-bong is based in Daegu, South Korea, where he improvises and intuitively expresses the free shapes of lines, building a body of work that has been called ‘graffiti painting’. The artist’s works are made by applying a specific color to the canvas and using various pointed tools such as knives, nails, and spatulas to freely express various lines, and after drying, applying a specific color again to complete the work, revealing similarities to the inlaid celadon technique found in ceramics. He graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Kyeimyung University and has participated in several solo exhibitions at Indang Museum, Bongsan Cultural Center, and Leeahn Gallery, as well as exhibitions at major museums and galleries in Korea and abroad. He was awarded the 24th LEE IN SUNG Art Prize at the Daegu Museum of Art, and his works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Bank of Korea, Daegu Arts Center, Daegu Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, and Indang Museum.

권오봉은 대구를 기반으로 선의 자유로운 형상들을 즉흥적이며 직관적으로 표현하며 ‘낙서 회화’라 불리우는 작품 세계를 구축하고 있다. 작가의 작업은 캔버스에 특정색을 올리고 칼, 못, 농기구 갈고리 주걱과 같은 뾰족한 다양한 도구를 이용하여 자유롭게 여러 가지 선들을 표현하고 말린 후에 다시 특정 색을 올려서 작업을 완성하며 도자기에서 나타나는 상감청자 기법과 유사한 면을 드러내기도 한다. 계명대학교 서양화과를 졸업하였으며 인당 뮤지엄, 봉산문화회관, 리안 갤러리 등 여러 개인전을 비롯해 국내 외 주요 미술관 및 갤러리 전시에 참여하였다. 2024년 대구미술관 제24회 이인성 미술상을 수상한 바 있으며 주요 작품 소장처는 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 대구문화예술회관, 대구미술관, 부산시립미술관, 인당뮤지엄 등이다.
