Konstantin Chaykin
Overview

Konstantin Chaykin is a multidisciplinary artist, watchmaker and inventor. Among his most significant creations are the world’s thinnest mechanical wristwatch ThinKing with a thickness of 1,65 mm, one of the world’s most complicated wristwatch Stargazer with 16 functions and world’s first self-portrait watch Joker Selfie – each representing the iconic Wristmons family.
Based on 20-years experience of creating the unique Haute Horlogerie artworks, Konstantin Chaykin invented a new fine art genre – Horological Art. It was established as a profound dialogue between time and person. Horological Art is an unprecedented genre where painting is created by the principles of engineering. Its proportions and compositions are rooted in the logic of watch movements.
At ART OnO the artist will present two central cycles of his painting: Time-Magic Enchantresses and a series inspired by Alice in Wonderland. These will be accompanied by the Horological Archetypes series for the first time. The vitrine display brings together the iconic Wristmon family as a key element of the artist’s universe. In exhibition context watches are showcased as contemporary art objects in their own right.

Konstantin Chaykin is a famous multidisciplinary artist, watchmaker, and inventor internationally recognized for his contributions to innovative artistic concepts and Haute Horlogerie. He is known as the first artist to integrate elements of mechanical watchmaking into painting. Using the language of horological archetypes, Chaykin has developed a distinctive visual style that had not previously existed. His works combine engineering mastery with rich artistic metaphors.
Chaykin’s creations in haute horlogerie are not only technical achievements but also internationally recognized cultural objects. Among them are the world’s thinnest mechanical wristwatch, the most complicated clock and watch created in Russia, and the iconic anthropomorphic Wristmons collection, which includes the world’s first wristwatch self-portrait.
In Chaykin’s paintings, the language of mechanics becomes the language of art. Components of watchmaking are transformed into symbols that reflect human consciousness, time, and the philosophical structure of the universe. Through this approach, the artist has developed a unique authorial genre – Horological Art.
Horological Art is painting constructed according to the principles of drafting and engineering design. The proportions and compositions of these works follow the logic of watch mechanisms and reflect more than twenty years of Chaykin’s experience creating some of the most remarkable mechanical timepieces of contemporary watchmaking.
For this reason, his paintings possess a particular significance. Unlike a watch, where an idea must pass through engineering development and the work of a team, a painting captures the artist’s direct reflection. On canvas, the worlds he constructs are not limited by the functional logic of a mechanical device.
The artworks of Konstantin Chaykin are regularly presented at international auctions. In 2025, the painting A Mad Horological Tea Party was sold at Ineichen for $116,000, while the canvas Thinking of the Time’s Birth reached $70,000 at Phillips. Earlier, in 2024, the painting Goddess of Tempo was sold at a Phillips charity auction for $25,000.
